Is AI a boon or bane?

Our world is moving so fast, it’s hard to visualize sometimes how life used to be 10 years or say 20 years ago, there was a time we lived without a Smartphone and were perfectly alright.

Technology advancement has always been quite prevalent and humans have always been welcoming towards it and Artificial Intelligence came as a successor, undoubtedly a new age path breaking idea.

It’s been around for years, but only recently have they rocketed their pace to the public eye and their preferences. Its applications are endless and have simplified human effort to the extent that you can have any service at your disposal in a just click.

Is it a threat to human caliber or boon, has always been a debate? Let’s do some digging ourselves.

• AI powered applications are designed to work with accuracy hence eliminating any sort of error the human counterpart are inclined to make.
• They can be used at toxic environment like mining, welding or places, where harmful radiation is lethal to human, it’s always better to have a metallic skin.
• AI has been widely accepted in healthcare and banking from aiding doctors to conduct complex surgery with zero error to organizing and managing banking data.
• AI can work for prolonged period without having to take breaks and hence is more efficient in tedious jobs.

Having said that, standing at a place where we are sure shot enjoying its benefits can we turn a blind eye to the fact that its development is forging ahead beyond control. The bothered minds of big shot IT leaders have expressed their concern lately saying “AI system with human – competitive intelligence can pose potential risk to humanity” and have passed an open letter duly signed by them to halt development of AI system powerful than GPT4 for six months. Such a letter comes as a surprise to many at this point in AI’s development as it’s like taming a wild loose horse. Government intervention is solicited in open letter in case the restriction is not enacted as requested.

In view of all these we can only conclude that AI is irreplaceable and significant for human evolution and societal progress at the same time government intervention is imperative as its advancement has to be administered in view of the increased adaptation among the masses to avoid misusage and exploitation.
